Today, I did some deep research on the available blogging tools for Windows, there are several freewares available in market and if soemone is interested, he can build a web empire out of such tools 😉 please find analysis of tools below collected from several websites,

First I will take you through portable blogging tools for Windows, these tools are helpful on the Go and can be loaded directly from pendrive on any system running Windows, this effort is in direction to make my blogging Machine Independent so I could use any PC with a USB port and Internet access from which to blog.

1. Windows Live Writer: The best one I like is Windows Live Writer, it is a WYSWUG tool and works perfectly as you never nee dto worry about the image upload and all, it will do all for you within seconds, but there are certain limitation nefore you use it as portable version, a great techie at TechLifeBlogged created a portable version fo this great tool, available at following location,

Old version of tool is available at:

Above link tells how to make a portable version of Windows live write for Sandisk U3 pendrive and normal pendrive, I have extracted details of only for any pendrive version, please find it below, all credit goes to developer SCOTT KINGERY and nothing to me :)

Limitation of Windows Live Writer Portable: Wherever you will try to open the .exe file, it requires admin privileges, without which it will not run, so if you are going to use this portable utility across several windows machiens then make sure you have admin privileges.

2. w.bloggar: This is one of best utilities available and doesn;t have limitation like you need to have admin privleges, you cna run it wihtout it as well, just make sure internet usage is enabled for account or proxy server is properly configured. This utility is very simple, clean and easy to use, except have some limitations like you need to upload images first then can link, no way of creating categories, you should have them alreayd available so that it can load (reload option is available, but a add category would have made it much better).

You can download portable version of this tool from:

Help file is limited, so spend some time to learn more about it. This post is posted using wblogger only 😀

More about it’s desktop version:
It is an application that acts as an interface between the user and one or more blogs. In other words, it is a Post and Template editor, with several features and resources that the browser based blog editors do not offer. Because w.bloggar runs over the Windows GUI, it allows the user to edit posts without being connected to the Internet. Posts can be saved locally and anytime the user wants to publish a new text, one click on the w.bloggar icon in the system tray brings up the editor, and one more click will post it to the weblog. Another great advantage of w.bloggar is that it is compatible with most of the weblog systems available, allowing an advanced user to have only one interface to several accounts hosted on several different sites, using different publishing systems. [Price: Free]

3. ZRaven: This tool is another good tool available as freeware, I have not used it much. To install this as a portable utility, you need to execute the executable available at and when you run the setup, it will give you an option of isntalling it as portable utility, you cna select that and provide a folder, it will install all files in that folder and then move that to your pendrive to use as portable from any machine. The limitation is same as Windows live writer, that you cna use it only when you haeve admin rights on other machines, else you will end up in prompt 😉

Apart from above three I didn’t find much more portable utilities, so you now know which one to choose as portable!

Similarly, now we willl talk about desktop utlities, the information provided is collected from several online articles and I have not tested all of applications, so better go and try before commenting 😀
