Today, I was trying to restore IOS 5.0.1 firmware file on my iPhone and for same continuously receiving an error message as “This Device Isn’t Eligible For The Requested Build”

In order to fix, you need to update your host file to stop interaction of iTunes with Apple servers, for same I was struggling to edit hosts file in LION, found a good link mentioned in helpful links below which clearly stated how to edit hosts file in Lion OSX.

Command to edit hosts file in Snow Leopard

sudo /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit /etc/hosts

Equivalent command to be used in Lion OSX,

sudo nano /etc/hosts

Once editing is done, press

CONTROL+O and then CONTROL+X

This will update hosts file.
